Spotted in an Aberdeen paper, 1941: they printed bulletins on individual patients in the city hospitals, using reference numbers? huh.

Good news: the following Monday it had dropped to just 11 patients on the critical list, and also the censor would grudgingly allow romance

@generalising interesting – I assume relatives or acquaintances could be told the reference number, and track the patient’s health in the paper that way?

@LucasWerkmeister that's my best guess! And presumably avoided the difficulty of them trying to stay in contact with a probably overworked hospital.
